4.UNIQUE PHENOMENA DURING DEEP DRAWING METAL FORMING


Due to the different stresses (forces) and deformation of the various parts during drawing, some unique phenomena have appeared in the drawing process:


WRINKLING: 

A. When the tangential compressive stress of the flange portion is deep enough to exceed the material's resistance to instability, the flange part material will be unstable and bulge, which is called wrinkle. Wrinkling is first cut. It occurs to the outer edge with the largest compressive stress, and causes the pull when the wrinkling is severe.

B. Wrinkling is one of the main causes of waste in the deep drawing process. It is not allowed in the normal drawing process. The pressure of the pressure ring is often used to press the flange part to prevent wrinkles.


UNEVEN DEFORMATION: the thickness of each part of the material changes when drawing, and the variation is uneven. The thickness of the outer edge of the flange changes the most. After the deep drawing is formed, the blank material of the deep drawing is the thickest. Gradually thinning, and the bottom of the material is weakened by the frictional effect (draw between the punch and the bottom material) to prevent the material from being elongated, and the bottom rounded part is always subjected to the convex fillet in the deep drawing. The top force and bending action are always subjected to tensile stress throughout the drawing, resulting in the largest thinning here.

Therefore, the thickness reduction in the drawing is mainly concentrated on the bottom rounded portion and the side wall portion of the cylinder, and we call this most severely thinned portion a dangerous section.

During the drawing process, the side wall of the cylinder acts to transmit the tension of the punch to the flange. When the radial tensile stress of the force transmitting region exceeds the limit of the material, the pulling phenomenon occurs.



UNEVEN MATERIAL HARDENING: After deep drawing, the material is plastically deformed, causing cold hardening of the material. Due to the different degree of deformation of each part, the degree of cold work hardening is also different, wherein the opening is the largest, the degree of hardening down is reduced, when the bottom is pulled, since the tangential compression deformation is small, the cold hardening is minimal, the yield limit and strength of the material are low, and the cracking phenomenon is most likely to occur here.
